Graduation Rates and Spending Created on January 19, 2012 by Dakin Sloss
About This Visualization

How does education spending and performance data compare across the 50 states? This visualization allows you to the relationship between either graduation or drop-out rates and different components of education spending along with staffing ratios.

Instructions: Use the drop down menus at the right to choose whether to choose the desired performance and spending (or staffing) metrics. Scroll over a state in the map to see how it measures up (the size of the dots on the map are proportional to the number of students). The top graph shows performance, the bottom graph shows input, and the lower right hand corner shows the correlation or lack thereof.

Sources: All data is from the national center for education statistics: http://nces.ed.gov/ccd/bat/. Note this data is for 2008-2009 and dropout rates are a total for 9-12th graders, whereas the graduation rate is averaged for all freshman so these two metrics need not add to 100 percent. CACS is not responsible for the accuracy of data received from outside sources. Please email us at info@cacs.org if you believe you have found an error in the visualization, or to request a copy of the data.
