Government Employee Unions

What's the Story

State and local government employee unions gave nearly $6 million to state legislators in 2009-2010 within 30 days of bill votes in order to influence decisions. For bills these special interests took a stance on, the legislator they donated to voted more than 1500 times in line with the union's preference. This means 86 percent of their donations 'successfully' influenced a legislators' vote. Not coincidentally, California government employee workers have some of the most generous salaries and benefits in the country.

What's At Stake

Campaign Finance
This can hardly be called a fair system and it is one that costs taxpayers unnecessary billions. Government employee unions donated millions of dollars, influenced elected officials on issues such as salary raises, pension benefits, etc... and these issues cost the state billions each year in unfunded pension debt and high salaries relative to other governments. We need to stop special interests from controlling the process and hurting taxpayers!
